Prepper’s Paradise

Hospital of Emotions – Resilience Unit

Mother Nature sets the stage.
I answer with light—
colorful strokes that accent and
contrast the living landscape.

This is my newest creative offering, growing directly out of a lifelong relationship with color, space, and technology.

My background in photography and architecture trained my eye to see light not as an accessory, but as a structural element—something that defines mood, depth, and experience. That understanding deepened through years of designing immersive art installations, most notably Altervision 3D Blacklight Experience, where precision, color interaction, and spatial awareness are essential.

Today, this service brings an immersive, art-driven approach to landscape and architectural lighting—transforming familiar spaces into nighttime environments with character, intention, and presence. The goal isn’t spectacle for its own sake, but atmosphere: carefully composed brushstrokes of light that reveal new dimensions after dark.

Along the way, I began applying those same principles to real environments—initially enhancing intimate gatherings and personal events with thoughtfully placed light. As my lighting toolkit expanded, so did the opportunities. What began organically evolved into commissioned work for homes, venues, and events seeking something beyond standard illumination.

As part of Hospital of Emotion’s takeover of St Vincent’s Behavior Health Center this summer,

this room explores the emotion of Resilience through the imagined world of a survivalist bunker.

Shelves are stocked with food rations, water, tools, guides, and monitoring equipment — everything someone might gather to endure an uncertain future. Each item is carefully organized, reflecting the belief that resilience is built through patience, discipline, and preparation.

Under the glow of blacklight, the scene takes a surreal turn as everyday supplies glow in vivid neon colors, almost as if they’ve been touched by a strange, radioactive energy. This playful spectacle – featuring the work of Dutchess / Cerraeh Laykin as Lead Production Artist transforms a serious idea into something fun and visually compelling.

The narrative also points to sentimentality and happier times — offering quiet reminders that resilience is not only about surviving, but about holding onto memory, hope, and the things that make life worth protecting.
